We are thrilled to report that our partner, Hearing Health Foundation (HHF), has awarded two new hyperacusis research grants for 2027:

Mark A. Rutherford, Ph.D., Washington University in St. Louis: Preventing or mitigating hyperacusis with a blockade of calcium-permeable AMPA receptors

Brad Buran, Ph.D., Oregon Health & Science University: Drug-mediated cochlear synapse regeneration: reversing central gain and hyperacusis in a gerbil model

These grants cost $100,000 each and are funded thanks to your generous support. The first award, to Dr. Rutherford, was funded entirely by your donations to Hyperacusis Research. The second grant was made possible by a $1 million fund to find a cure for hyperacusis made possible by the generosity of several members of the hyperacusis patient community and matching funds provided by an anonymous HHF donor.

These grants are possible thanks to the generosity of you, our donors. Our non-profit organization is 100 percent volunteers, we have no expenses such as salaries and office space. The funds we raise go directly to research grants to find a cure for hyperacusis. The more funds we are able to raise, the more grants can be awarded. We are now kicking off our 2026 Fall Fundraiser to Find a Cure and you can help by clicking here and donating.

For researchers: HHF is now accepting Letters of Intent for their 2028 grant award process. The deadline is December 7, 2026.
